2005

Belle, a small female poodle cross was rescued from the pound in Sydney.  She is a gentle, friendly and sweet natured little dog with good dog manners.  She also gets on well with people and cats. Belle has now been rehomed in Sydney with another rescue dog from a Sydney pound.

Daisy and Petunia are two puppies born to a rescue maltese who we didn't know was pregnant when we picked her up.  They were both 8 weeks old at the end of January 2005 and so were ready to go to their new home. These two get on very well and we thought it would be marvellous if they could find a new home together. Luckily, we found a home willing to take them both and they have started a trial period with a family of four boys where they are cuddled and fussed over with great diligence.  We expect that these two little ones will have a fantastic time and enjoy being pampered.  They will both be small dogs (about 3kg) and have had an excellent start to life - unlike most other dogs we have placed. They will grow up to be energetic and playful and will need regular exercise as well as good ongoing care and attention.

Mikey is a very small 2 year old maltese with a loving nature who was picked up from the Canberra Pound.  He loves to snuggle and as he weighs only about 2.5kg he is very easy to pick up and take to most places.  Mikey has started a trial period with Lucy, rescued in 2004 and is enjoying regular walks, lots of attention and plenty of cuddles.

Moet, a 6 year old toy apricot poodle was handed in to the pound for rehoming because he cried and barked all day when his owners left him inthe garden on his own all day while they were at work.  Moet is a gentle friendly dog who just loves to be with people.  He has started a trial period with an adoptive family and is loving his 4 year old companion poodle as well as having lots of attention from his family.  He has proven to be an escape artist if left alone so we are using several strategies to keep him safe and to build his tolerance of the family leaving for a few hours at a time.

Ricardo is a friendly, happy older mini poodle who was rescued from the pound.  He has been adopted by his new family who are enjoying both the company he provides and catering to his every need.  Ricky loves to meet everyone in the neighbourhood and is adored by all who meet him.  He had a bad skin condition which fortunately cleared up after medication was applied for a few weeks. And a suspected case of prostate cancer may hopefully have been a false alarm. But he has severe arthritis and bad teeth which are being treated, and his new owners are proud to ensure he has the best life he can for the next several years and possibly longer. They also say he’s a completely different dog from when he was rescued – livelier, smilier, waggier, more confident.  He's a very happy chap and he’s certainly a very loving, smoochy one now he knows where he belongs

Pepsi is an older mini poodle who just loves to be with people and have a short ramble for exercise.  He has had chronic ear and teeth problems but these have been treated now and he is in good health, with a strong heart and lungs.

Pepsi has now been adopted by his new family in Melbourne who are spoiling him rotten with walks on the beach, lots of bones, exploring of new walks and tons of cuddles and plays.

Tiny Teddy was rescued from the Canberra Pound.  He was about 2 years old, weighed about 2kg and looks remarkably like Mikey (above), but is even smaller! Teddy has a minor heart condition which means he plays and exercises in short bursts.  This condition may account for his smaller size but is unlikely to affect his lifespan if he is cared for well. Teddy loves to play energetically and has the best fun when he meets other dogs on walks.  While he did not care too much for people at first, he has learned that cuddles are fun too and rushes to say hello when his carers come home.

Tiny Teddy has now been adopted by his new family who love him to pieces.  He is walked every day and sits with his new owner who enjoys his company while she works.

Little Rabbit couldn't be cared for by his owners any longer as they were finding three children and an energetic toy poodle too much to manage.  Little Rabbit has now found a permanent home with his foster carers and has become firm friends with the two standard poodles already in his new home. It didn't take him long to learn how to balance trying to run the household with finding his proper place as part of the family. Now he is cosseted and fussed over in a way that reflects his status as the smallest member of the house.
Doogie, an older mini poodle couldn't be cared for by his family any longer.  He has arthritis, a chronic condition which is being treated, and he is also being treated for ear and urinary infections which will clear up soon.  He is delightful on the grooming table and loves nothing better than to know someone he loves is nearby. Doogie has now settled in with his foster carers who also care for wildlife in the country.  As it seems unlikely we are going to find another home for him that meets his needs as well as this one, it looks like he will stay with them for the rest of his days.

Jack is a small schnauzer cross who looked rather scruffy when first rescued from the pound.  He is a wildly energetic dog with a penchant for quick escape. He has scrubbed up beautifully after several weeks of intensive care and a recent schnauzer-look haircut. He is responding well to good training and loves the opportunity to play with other dogs and go for a walk (or a run if he can get it).  He loves people and is learning how to fit into a household environment.  Jack has started a trial and is much loved by his new family who have 4 children, another schnauzer and an enormous 2000m2 backyard.

Bobby is certainly a “bobby dazzler”! With his soft grey and white coat, he is a gorgeous-looking fellow, about two years old He is a confident and happy dog who is always interested in what you’re doing. And when you talk to him, he gazes at you as if he knows exactly what you’re talking about. Bobby loves playing with his toys and is great with kids. When he is not playing, Bobby’s a calm and relaxed dog who loves nothing better than flopping on your lap and being cuddled. He is a very affectionate boy and good with other dogs and also cats, though he is very people-oriented.

Maurie is a young extremely energetic miniature silver poodle.  He has an enormous bark but only uses it to announce the arrival of people.  He loves to play and has a collection of dollies and toys that he invites others to share with him at all hours of the day.  He is extremely gentle in nature but insistent on company and doesn't cope well with long periods of being alone. He is now living with a family in inner Canberra where he gets 2-3 walks a day and is loving all the attention.

Charlie and Natasha (Tash) are both miniature poodles and have been together for 6 years. They sleep, eat, play and spend every minute side by side. Quite often they just lay around gazing into each others eyes. It’s amazing to watch. Charlie is an 8 year old purebred, black (but greying) gentleman. He’s fit, healthy and much younger than his years! Tash is a 6 year old purebred, black (also greying) girl with huge brown eyes and a beautiful tail. She loves chasing stick and ball, and between them they could keep a whole family happy for hours. While they love human contact, they are quite content to just hang out together. They love walks and brushes, and are great with cats. Both are confident and content and only bark to warn their family of possible intruders.

Fortunately, their original family's hope that they could be rehomed together with another family who would like to share the lives of these two, has now been realised.

Jaffa, a slightly sooky maltese, has settled in beautifully with his foster carers and loves playing with the other dogs. His favourite place is curled up on someone's lap, although being carried by someone or sleeping next to them on the bed are almost as good. Jaffa is an exuberant soul when going for a walk and needs regular mental stimulation or he gets bored. He has learnt not to chase cats, and seems to be good with older children, but cannot be pushed or forced to do things he doesn't want to do. He prefers women but will be happy with men who make an effort to befriend him and are gentle with him. Jaffa responds well to positive praise but should not be encouraged to play biting games as this has got out of hand in the past. We do not recommend punishment as a method of training for any dog.

Jaffa has now been rehomed with a family who already have one little maltese, and he is getting on well with everyone in the home.
