Pre-2001

Chicco was a small black poodle surrendered because of health problems.  His previous owners were not really sure how to care for him and he had terrible problems with his teeth and skin.  He was a highly anxious dog and was unhappy until he was adopted and felt more settled.  His teeth were fixed with a visit to the vet and his skin problems are improving significantly.  His new family adore him and love his antics.  He enjoys playing with the family’s other poodle and is decidedly at home jumping onto laps for a cuddle frequently.  Chicco loves a walk and is now a much happier poodle.  Chicco is about 5 years old.

Harry was originally bought from a breeder who no longer needed him, by a lady as a present to her daughter and grandchildren in another state.  Harry was a loved by the family but they were unable to continue to care for him.  He was sold as a 9 year old to another family who had not had a dog and did not want a puppy.  A few months later the new family no longer wanted Harry.  Harry was placed with a foster carer who did not intend to keep Harry as she already had two male toy poodles.  A home for a 10 year old male miniature poodle who has warts and was wetting inside, was a big ask.  However, Harry has been with his foster carer who decided to adopt him, for about 18months.  He has a smiley face, is very lovable and no longer wets inside.  Harry now lives in a country town in Victoria and is happy in the autumn of his life living with two other toy poodles who all come from "broken families" but with time, lots of love and cuddles, heaps of gentle grooming and loads of patience they are now happy boys.  Harry’s new owner recommends taking on an older dog - the rewards are far greater than you would expect.

Milly is a little fox terrier poodle cross who was rescued from the pound and after having to be clipped back to her skin was placed as a companion for someone who is not well.

Boswell is honey coloured poodle cocker cross who was unable to be cared for by his owners when he was still a puppy.  He has been living happily with a family who escaped the fires by the skin of their teeth with just their pets.

Pepys (pronounced Peeps and named after the famous English diarist Sir Samuel Pepys) was a 13 year old miniature poodle with long legs who was surrendered by a family who could no longer care for him.  Pepys can only hear high pitched sounds and does not see well; he was very anxious for many months about being abandoned and craved constant attention and affection.  His placid, loving and obedient nature has not been affected, however, and he really is a delight to care for.  He was fostered for six months before being considered well enough to place.  A very special family adopted Pepys who now lives the high life in a large home with a beautiful garden for his enjoyment.  He has gradually learned that it is home, relaxing, finding his very own spots and establishing his own routine.  Pepys still likes to know where his owners are but now copes very well indeed with them leaving for short periods of time.  He has excellent stamina for his age; he still loves a walk and playing with his tennis ball (despite having only 6 teeth).  When he returns to his foster home for babysitting occasionally he also plays energetically with the other dogs.  He also loves to lie lazily in the sun observing the family activities.  It is hard to believe that Pepys is now about 15 years old.
